Wisp, a leading women’s telehealth provider in the U.S., reported a significant surge in emergency contraception (EC) sales in the days leading up to President Trump’s January 20 inauguration, with a 233% increase week-over-week from January 13 to 20. On Inauguration Day, the company saw a 60% increase in orders for Plan B, particularly for the six-pack option.
“We’ve seen significant increases in emergency contraception sales leading up to inauguration, signaling that women are taking proactive steps to secure their reproductive healthcare access during this period of uncertainty,” said Monica Cepak, CEO of Wisp.
This surge mirrored similar patterns observed during previous political shifts. Following Trump’s election victory, Wisp recorded a 1,000% increase in EC sales between November 5-6 in states where new abortion bans or limited access were implemented, including Florida, Texas, and Alabama.
Founded in 2018, Wisp initially focused on treatments for conditions like herpes, bacterial vaginosis, UTIs, and yeast infections before expanding into reproductive health services. The company now offers emergency contraception across all 50 states and medication abortion services in nine states where it remains legal. Following the overturn of Roe v. Wade, Wisp accelerated the launch of its medication abortion services to address growing healthcare needs.
The company has faced challenges in reaching patients through traditional marketing channels. Like many women’s health companies, Wisp navigates restrictions on major social media platforms to provide educational content about reproductive health options. Despite these obstacles, the company has been able to build an organic community of over 1.3 million patients.
“Wisp remains committed to being a trusted healthcare resource, continuing to advocate for women’s health issues during this critical time in our country,” said Cepak.
