Oura is seeking to patent a pulse wave velocity system designed to detect pregnancy complications earlier, per Wareable, adding another layer to its expanding women’s health strategy.
The system would continuously track blood pressure and arterial stiffness, flagging abnormal changes that could signal hypertension, preeclampsia, and gestational diabetes. The company did not comment on the filing.
The patent marks Oura’s latest move into women’s health – expanding from cycle tracking into fertility, pregnancy, hormonal health, and perimenopause and menopause, while integrating with platforms like Natural Cycles, Oova, and Clue to enhance its insights.
Turning its biometric data into more personalized guidance, Oura also debuted a women’s health AI model this year, spanning life stages from menstruation to menopause, to improve health outcomes. Doubling down on research, the filing follows a published study on over 10,000 pregnant women who wore Gen 3 Oura rings, assessing how continuous monitoring could improve maternal-fetal outcomes.
While building new features, the company is also applying existing biometrics capabilities, such as PWV, to specific women’s health conditions, building toward a more longitudinal approach to care.
