UpLift, a behavioral health company, has significantly expanded its reach in the United States by acquiring Minded, an online psychiatry service specializing in women’s care. This strategic move allows UpLift to offer team-based therapy and psychiatry services across all 50 states, starting with California, Illinois, New York, Pennsylvania, and Texas. Previously, UpLift’s operations were limited to a handful of states, including Florida, Maryland, New Jersey, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

The acquisition is timely, considering the pressing need for accessible and affordable mental health care in the U.S. Statistics indicate that over half of American adults with mental illness do not receive treatment, totaling more than 28 million individuals. This situation is exacerbated by the fact that less than 30% of therapists accept insurance, making treatment costly, especially for mental illnesses co-occurring with chronic conditions.

UpLift addresses these challenges through its integrated behavioral health platform, which significantly broadens access to quality therapy and psychiatry. By incorporating a model that enables healthcare providers to accept a range of insurances — including commercial plans, Medicare, and Medicaid — UpLift facilitates patient-provider matching based on both clinical and non-clinical needs. The platform operates as a comprehensive solution for patients, providers, and payers, and focuses on capturing detailed data to assess the effectiveness of treatment, promoting measurement-based care and a modern patient experience.

A noteworthy aspect of UpLift’s approach is its success in integrating with insurance systems. The company streamlines the often cumbersome processes of insurance contracting, credentialing, and claims reimbursement, making it easier for providers to join and stay in-network. This is crucial for therapists and psychiatrists, who can collaborate on patient treatment plans using the platform and communicate outcomes with primary care providers.

Since its inception, UpLift has shown promising results. New patients typically receive care within 1.4 days on average, and a significant majority of individuals with severe depression report a clinically meaningful reduction in symptoms. Additionally, nine out of ten clients report feeling better within 90 days of starting treatment.

“Patients, payers and providers share the same goal — access to better, more affordable, behavioral health care,” said Kyle Talcott, CEO and founder of UpLift. “UpLift’s platform works for everyone, unlocking the promise of quality therapy and psychiatric care. Since our services launched in 2021, we have achieved unprecedented results and market traction – including within Medicare and Medicaid. The acquisition of Minded allows us to expand nationally and grow the number of patients who can now access best-in-class therapy and psychiatry covered by their insurance.”

Like UpLift, Minded was conceived to be clinically sophisticated. Since Minded’s launch in 2021, 90% of its patients have shown measurable improvement in their condition within 90 days of starting treatment. The company has logged more than 50,000 telepsychiatry visits.

“Both Minded and UpLift have focused on improving outcomes for patients, and improving affordability by accepting insurance,” said David Ronick, CEO and co-founder of Minded. “We are strong proponents of their model and are thrilled to join forces.”

UpLift, which was launched in partnership with Redesign Health, a healthcare innovation company, accepts insurance payments from major health plans, including UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, and Cigna. This acquisition not only expands UpLift’s geographic coverage but also marks a crucial step in increasing the number of patients who can access top-tier therapy and psychiatry services covered by their insurance.
