The Value-based Care Market: An Overview

Vital Signs' Jacob Effron wrote a great piece on startups, who are taking on value-based care and created a market landscape that provides great orientation about the space.

"Health tech startups are increasingly excited about taking on risk. These value-based arrangements allow them to build new higher touch care models without having to worry about reimbursement for each individual service (fee-for-service). Over the last decade, value-based care has been partially implemented by healthcare executives and furthered by policy. But we’re seeing more and more health tech startups pitch taking on risk. Their care models offer the promise of providing more frequent care that better meets patient needs and helps them better manage their conditions."

The Evolution of Cycle Care

Friends, it seems like the cycle care space is leveling up in big ways and if last week is any indication we're about to see some great innovations hitting the market! But don't just take our word for it! Here's 3 examples that lead us to believe this:

1️⃣ Business Model Innovation: One of the big news we covered last week was Aunt Flow's Series A, which is a great example for go-to market innovation in a somewhat crowded space. As Amboy Street Founding Partner Carli Sapir, who invested in the round puts it: "While the D2C menstrual product space is crowded, Aunt Flow has a unique B2B strategy which allows it to break through the crowd. Not only is innovation in this space a huge economic opportunity, it is also creating much needed progress in the underserved women’s health space."

2️⃣ Diagnostics & Biomarkers: Daye started out as a DTC cycle care brand, but - as shared during their pitch at Women's Health Innovation Summits last week - its ambitions are greater. The team is on a mission to build "a highly ambitious R&D platform to raise the standards in the female healthcare industry." Their aim is "to bridge the gender gap in medical research and product innovation by designing products rooted in scientific rigor and inspired by the female intuition." The team is building a gynae health platform that will address all areas of female health, from the first menstruation up to menopause and is currently working on several new digital and physical products. One to watch!

3️⃣ Therapeutics: Callaly, known for its innovative Tampliner, has its eye on vaginal drug delivery and is currently building out a new vertical under the brand extension Cala Lilly to focus on this effort.

We're sure there's more happening in this space and of course the above are just some examples. Wanna share what you're excited about in the cycle care space? Hit reply! We'd love to hear what you're seeing! 🙌

Startup Spotlight!

Wanna know which startups get us excited these days? Below are a few of our recent (femtech-healthtech-ish) discoveries. This week's round-up is inspired by Women's Health Innovation Summit Europe in Basel, where we got to know some startups that hadn't been on our radar!

My Moves Matter: "Empowering women with Parkinson's to live their best lives."

MOMM Diagnostics: "Point of care tests for preeclampsia"
