Tensive Secures Up to €20M to Develop Breast Reconstruction Implant Alternative

Medtech startup Tensive has secured up to €20 million in convertible financing from the European Investment Bank, backed by its InvestEU program, to advance development of its reconstructive breast implant, Regenera.

An alternative to traditional implants, Regenera is designed specifically for breast reconstruction following cancer surgery. The implant uses a bioresorbable biopolymer scaffold – implemented in lumpectomy surgery protocols – to restore volume and boost new tissue growth.

Tensive’s loan will support Regenera’s development, research, clinical evaluation, and CE marking ahead of manufacturing and commercialization.

“Supporting European innovation in health, and in women’s health in particular, is central to the EIB Group’s mission. This financing will help Tensive advance its promising regenerative technology with the potential to address important unmet medical needs in breast cancer care. said Gelsomina Vigliotti, EIB Vice President.

Following an initial in-human trial demonstrating safety and efficacy in benign tumor resections, Tensive’s latest trial is underway with 94 breast cancer patients. The company is targeting regulatory approval by early 2027.
