BeSound Opens NYC Breast Imaging Clinic, Plans National Expansion

BeSound

Breast imaging clinic BeSound has opened its NYC flagship in Flatiron as it plans nationwide expansion.

Founded by former NASA quantum physicist Bailey Renger, BeSound offers FDA-approved 3D automated breast ultrasound (ABUS) screenings using GE HealthCare’s Invenia™ ABUS system.

Designed specifically for breast imaging, the machine’s probe is shaped for female anatomy and captures more consistent scans in comparison to handheld versions, which require technician expertise. ABUS can also help identify cancer in dense breast tissue, which can be more difficult to evaluate with traditional mammography.

“Breast imaging data is only as good as the measurement tool used to capture it, yet millions of women, especially those with dense breast tissue, are reliant on an outdated, reactive system that leaves huge blind spots,” said Bailey Renger, Founder and CEO of BeSound.

Expanding its capabilities, BeSound is investing in a new AI model trained on structured breast imaging data to accelerate scan interpretation, identify findings, and monitor tissue changes over time.

“Every BeSound scan captures a complete, standardized 3D image of the breast, and that consistency is what makes AI genuinely useful in breast imaging,” said Bailey Renger, Founder and CEO of BeSound. “We’re building the foundational AI layer that helps physicians read faster, spot subtle changes earlier, and follow a woman’s breast health over time instead of judging a single snapshot. AI doesn’t replace the physician. It can give them a sharper view, and it can give women answers sooner.”

In addition to New York, BeSound operates clinics in LA and plans to scale into additional markets.

“As we lay the groundwork to scale nationally and expand coverage across major payers, [New York] is a key step in making hospital-grade, proactive imaging more accessible,” Renger.
