The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has partnered with Madrid-based fertility clinic Tambre to provide reproductive health and fertility care to female players, referees, and Federation employees.
Available through spring 2029, the partnership provides access to IVF, egg freezing, egg donation, genetic testing, and reproductive health education. The RFEF says the program will give athletes more options to preserve fertility and make family-building decisions alongside their careers.
The Federation’s decision aims to address Spain’s dropping fertility rates, as well as pressure and lack of resources amongst female athletes who may want to conceive. Previously, the Federation also implemented new protocols to allow athletes to travel with their children.
The RFEF’s move follows similar efforts across women’s sports — Chelsea FC Women recently partnered with Fertility Plus on a player fertility fund covering assessments, treatments, counseling, and workshops, while RMA of New York provides fertility education and reproductive care through partnerships with Gotham FC and the New York Liberty.
