Oura has announced two new features rolling out globally starting May 6: Hormonal birth control support within Cycle Insights and a new Menopause Insights experience built around a proprietary clinical questionnaire. The updates represent Oura’s most significant expansion into hormonal health to date.
The hormonal birth control feature adapts Cycle Insights for members using pills, patches, IUDs, implants, and other hormonal methods – with support for more than 20 unique combinations. Members can see how their contraceptive method influences temperature patterns, sleep, and recovery over time, track bleeding and symptoms, and access tailored education connecting their method to real-world biometric changes. In the U.S., Oura is partnering with Twentyeight Health, a provider-led women’s healthcare platform, so members can connect directly with licensed clinicians for same-day contraceptive counseling appointments, prescriptions, and home delivery.
Menopause Insights is built around the Menopause Impact Scale (MIS), a research-driven questionnaire developed by Oura that measures menopause’s impact on quality of life across 22 symptoms – replacing what the company describes as a decades-old legacy tool developed from a small, clinic-based sample. After completing the assessment, members receive a personalized dashboard showing their overall impact level, contributing domains, and how each symptom affects daily functioning. Results can be tracked over time and shared with clinicians.
“Hormonal health has been treated as an afterthought in both medicine and technology for decades,” said chief product officer Holly Shelton. “When more than half of women in their reproductive years are using contraception and more than a billion women are moving through perimenopause and menopause, asking them to rely on trial and error, vague reassurance, or generic symptom trackers simply isn’t good enough.”
“Too often, women are left to piece together symptoms from search results, social media, and brief check-ins that don’t capture the full picture of their health – especially in perimenopause,” said Dr. Chris Curry, clinical director of women’s health at Oura. “Menopause Insights brings each member’s long-term biometric patterns together with what they’re experiencing day to day.”
The features join Oura’s growing women’s health suite alongside Cycle Insights, Fertile Window, Pregnancy Insights, and the company’s recently released proprietary women’s health AI model. Clinical care partnerships with Maven, Progyny, and Twentyeight Health allow clinicians to incorporate Oura reports into care plans.
