Movano Health has recently announced the relaunch of its Evie Ring. The smart ring, initially marketed as the first designed specifically for women’s health monitoring, returns to the market after a hiatus to address customer feedback and supply chain challenges.

The Evie Ring’s initial release earlier in 2024 faced several challenges. Users reported technical problems, including issues with battery life and data syncing, with some devices stopping work entirely. The ring’s open design, intended to accommodate finger swelling, was found by some users to catch on clothing and hair. Despite being marketed to women, the initial version lacked advanced menstrual cycle tracking features compared to competitors. Users also noted limitations in the app, citing a lack of in-depth data visualization and trending information.

In response to these issues, Movano has implemented several upgrades. The app now offers deeper personalized health insights through improved AI-based pattern recognition. This feature identifies correlations between menstrual cycle, heart health, sleep, mood, and energy over time. The sleep algorithm has been enhanced for more accurate measurement of sleep stages and quality, while the heart rate algorithm has been fine-tuned for better accuracy during exercise.

Movano has also announced plans for future improvements. These include auto-activity detection, an Android version of the app slated for November 2024, and a “My Health Report” feature for sharing data with healthcare providers. While not explicitly stated, the relaunch implies that previous battery and syncing issues have been addressed. The relaunched Evie Ring maintains its original specifications. It offers 4+ days of battery life, charges in 60 minutes, and comes in gold, rose gold, and silver finishes.

The smart ring market is competitive, with established players like Oura offering advanced features. Movano’s focus on women’s health puts it in an attractive vertical, but also raises expectations for specialized features like menstrual cycle tracking.

The success of the Evie Ring relaunch will depend on the resolution of previous technical issues, user reception of new AI-powered insights, the effectiveness of cycle tracking features compared to competitors, and the delivery of promised future updates.
