Kimba, a sleep technology company, has launched with $6.5 million in funding led by Selva Ventures, introducing an AI-powered system that uses adaptive scent delivery to actively improve sleep rather than just track it.
The device sits on the bedside and continuously monitors biometric signals including breathing patterns, movement, heart rate variability, and stress indicators through built-in sensors and integrations with WHOOP, Oura, Apple Watch, Fitbit, and Garmin. Its AI analyzes this data in real time to deliver precisely timed scent cues through the olfactory pathway – the only sensory channel that can influence the brain during sleep without causing wakefulness. The system uses proprietary water-based and plant-derived scent formulations personalized to each user’s sleep patterns.
In an early study of 50 participants over 48 nights, Kimba demonstrated significant improvements in sleep quality and cognitive performance. Two additional clinical studies are underway focused on polysomnography-validated sleep outcomes and PTSD-related sleep disruption.
“Kimba was built on a simple but powerful idea that sleep shouldn’t just be measured, it should be improved,” said founder and CEO Ben Fuxbruner, a former special forces commander who built the company after a near-death injury led to PTSD and chronic insomnia.
The device is available for pre-order at $299 including a six-month membership and personalized scent supply. Sleep disruption is one of the most commonly reported symptoms across menopause, perimenopause, and hormonal health conditions – making tools that actively improve sleep quality rather than just measure it relevant to the broader women’s health conversation.
