Every Monday we share a quick “best of” from the week that was with our Inner Circle members. What’s trending in the Femtech Insider community and beyond? We’ve got you covered! In this week's brief we talk about...

  • Report: GenZ Healthcare
  • Femtech Investment Round-up: July 2022
  • Startup Spotlight: Qvin & Oxyto
  • And more!

Spotlight: GenZ Health

Caraway, a femtech company with plans to take on the societal and medical imperative of caring for college students by providing integrated mental, reproductive and physical healthcare has come out of stealth announcing a $10.5M seed round.

The round was led by 7wireVentures and OMERS Ventures, with participation from Hopelab Ventures, as well as notable angel investors. The startup itself was hatched through a partnership between 7wireVentures, OMERS Ventures, and veteran digital health leaders Lori Evans Bernstein and Joshua Tauber.

Another startup active in this space and targeting a similar demographic is Kiira, who recently opened their first in-person clinic in Los Angeles after raising $4M in seed funding at the end of 2021.

Caraway is the latest startup focused on the Gen Z demographic, a generation that was born with a smartphone in hand and unsurprisingly has very different expectations of healthcare. Read-worthy is a recent report co-authored by Able Partners and Springbank Collective on Gen Z Health:

Some findings:

  • Gen Z is the most diverse generation in US history
  • Although they prefer convenient in-person healthcare, they ultimately expect a blend of offline experiences and online tech-enabled touchpoints
  • Mental health conversations have been normalized, reducing the stigma associated with seeking out mental health services
  • In the workplace Gen Z expects mental health benefits second only to a 401K
  • Since their needs have not been met by traditional primary care, Gen Z gravitates towards "self-prescribing" to create a patchwork of personalized solutions.
  • Cultural competency in the healthcare system will be required to reduce existing health disparities.
  • Access to healthcare, especially mental health services, should be improved or fully covered.
