Eight Sleep has launched Menopause Mode, a new feature designed to help women adapt their sleep routines as hormones fluctuate from perimenopause through postmenopause.
Eight Sleep’s research found that preferred sleeping temperatures differ by ~5°F across hormonal life stages, with women using hormone replacement therapy (HRT) preferring warmer temperatures. The findings also underscored differences in sleep duration, with postmenopausal women averaging more than 1.5 hours less sleep per week than premenopausal counterparts.
The temperature-regulating Pod will provide menopause-specific data insights, allowing women to track how symptoms impact their sleep over time and compare their patterns to others at the same stage.
Additionally, the Pod will respond to hot flashes by lowering temperatures and tracking trends to establish personalized settings. The feature is based on 57,000 nights of sleep from 450 peri- and post-menopausal women. To further manage hot flashes, Menopause Mode users can press a button for immediate cooling without opening the Eight Sleep app.
“Nearly every woman will go through menopause, and for most of them sleep is the first thing to break,” said Eight Sleep Co-Founder Alexandra Zatarain. “Night sweats and hot flashes wake you up, and nothing in the bedroom was built to respond. We built Menopause Mode because our research showed the Pod can cut nighttime hot flashes by 56% on average, and we wanted every woman using it to get that benefit automatically.”
The latest women’s health feature follows the Pod’s Pregnancy Mode which launched earlier this year, as well as the company’s Women’s Sleep Initiative, which includes research spanning maternal health and menopause.
