First-Ever Perimenopause and Menopause Capitol Hill Day Calls for Bipartisan Action

The Women’s Health Advocates (WHA), the National Menopause Foundation, and Perry will host the first-ever Perimenopause and Menopause Capitol Hill Day on September 22.

Bringing together more than 125 advocates from 29 states, the event will call for bipartisan action on menopause research, clinician education, access, coverage, and workplace policy.

“Perimenopause and menopause impacts 71 million women in this country and yet no legislation has been enacted to close gaps in research, education and care, and we are here today to change that to make this a national priority,” said Liz Powell, Esq., MPH, Founder of Women’s Health Advocates. “This first-ever Capitol Hill Day is bringing advocates to Washington to push for greater research investment, more education, improved access and coverage, and policies that finally recognize menopause as a national health priority.”

The event will also feature a congressional briefing with experts from the National Menopause Foundation, Perry, Alloy Health, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and Hello Heart.

The gathering follows the first-ever bipartisan congressional hearing on menopause – hosted last week by the Senate Special Committee on Aging – which called on the Government Accountability Office to evaluate federal funding for menopause care, training, and research.

“Menopause is not a single moment. It’s a transition that can span decades, and women deserve support at every stage of it,” said Claire Gill, Founder and President of the National Menopause Foundation. “By widening this year’s briefing from perimenopause to the full menopause journey, and by welcoming Women’s Health Advocates as a partner, we’re giving policymakers a clearer picture of what women need.”
