With India emerging as a pivotal market for women’s health—serving an estimated 691 million women—there is a clear need for a sustainable conversation on a dedicated platform on the role of technology in addressing unique challenges of India, and how to drive femtech and digital health advancements to improve health outcomes.

India’s women face unique healthcare challenges, compounded by a diverse society, a lack of equitable access to resources, education, and support systems, especially in smaller cities and rural areas. Technology has emerged as a powerful equalizer—enabling remote healthcare, digital health education, and low-cost diagnostic solutions.  However, meaningful progress requires sustainable investment and scaling, which can only be realized if stakeholders work together and create opportunities for public private partnership and femtech and digital health collaborations that can fill the gaps.

The Global Women Health Innovation Conference & Awards (GWHIC) 2024 is addressing this need by bringing together innovators, policymakers, healthcare providers, and investors to elevate women’s health as a priority.

India’s women’s health sector is gaining significant attention as technology-based solutions reshape the healthcare landscape. “As a diverse country with social and economic disparities, India requires unique, accessible, and culturally adaptable health solutions. To reach every girl every woman, everywhere, every time with quality driven affordable care, we need to leverage technology” says Dr Hema Divakar, FIGO Chair, Well Woman Healthcare Committee and GWHIC Advisory Board Member.

A first – bridging the gap between innovators and clinicians – GWHIC 2024

A dedicated conversation and high-level strategy discussion series is bringing clinicians and innovators together at the GWHIC 2024 Think Tank – Round Table Session in partnership with FEMTECH 360. Focused discussions between leading clinicians and innovators that will help bridge the gap and open avenues for a collaborative approach to offer care and support tailored to women of diverse age groups, addressing their unique needs and promoting overall well-being.

In our series women’s health and femtech in India, here are the first five health domains in India that offers global femtech innovators an opportunity to invest in India and address gaps in health equity across the life span of women.

  • Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS): PCOS is highly prevalent in India, affecting fertility and health. Digital health platforms have a vital role to facilitate specialist consultations and follow-up care, critical for those in regions with few gynecologists.
  • Maternal Health: While maternal mortality rates are declining, India is making progress, but accessibility and availability gaps are still large. The tech tools such as digital consultation, teleconnect and remote interactions could bridge the gap in accessing quality care by skilled providers.
  • Breast Cancer Screening: High breast cancer mortality rates are linked to lack of screening access, particularly in rural areas.
  • Diabetes and Hypertension Management: Chronic conditions are prevalent among Indian women, and tools like telemedicine and mobile health monitoring offer ongoing care options, helping patients avoid long, costly trips to urban healthcare facilities.
  • Cardiovascular Health: Heart disease is the leading cause of death among Indian women, yet access to cardiology is limited. Telemedicine and wearable tech can provide early intervention and monitoring, essential for preventing advanced disease.
