Period tracking app Clue has become the first major cycle-tracking platform in the UK to integrate prescription healthcare services, offering users free NHS-funded contraception.
The new feature addresses significant access barriers in the UK, where nearly half of women struggle to obtain contraception and one in 20 patients wait at least four weeks for GP appointments. The UK recorded the highest global search volume for emergency contraception in 2023, highlighting urgent demand for alternative access routes according to the company.
Clue, which reports over 100 million users globally, worked with NHS-licensed healthcare platform Evaro to enable the integration. The backend infrastructure has already served over 1 million patients and holds the necessary regulatory licenses from the Care Quality Commission, General Pharmaceutical Council, and NHS.
Users can now complete a brief online consultation within Clue and receive access to 40 different NHS-funded oral contraceptive options with next-day delivery across the UK. The service operates asynchronously, eliminating the need for real-time appointments or GP visits.
“Our mission at Clue is to help women and people with cycles understand their bodies and take control of their health,” said Rhiannon White, CEO of Clue. “Our partnership with Evaro is another step on that journey and we are delighted to be rolling out this innovative and convenient solution that will provide women with better access to prescription medication and greater agency over their wellbeing.”
Addressing UK’s Contraception Crisis
The integration launches as the UK government prioritizes women’s health in its NHS modernization agenda, with digital medicine transformation identified as a key focus area. Unlike existing digital NHS services limited to specific postcodes, Clue’s new feature provides nationwide coverage.
The platform includes transparent dashboards, digital aftercare access, and re-ordering reminders. Users transition directly from tracking their cycle to ordering contraception through the same interface they already use for period tracking.
“Nearly half of UK women can’t access basic contraception and I believe this is a systemic failure that technology can solve,” said Dr. Thuria Wenbar, CEO and co-founder of Evaro. “This partnership with Clue represents what I call the ‘banking moment’ for healthcare. Just as we’d never queue at a bank to transfer £20 today, women shouldn’t wait two months for contraception.”
Market Impact and User Experience
The feature represents a significant shift in how period tracking apps can serve users beyond basic cycle monitoring. By embedding healthcare services directly into the tracking experience, Clue removes friction between identifying contraceptive needs and accessing solutions.
The service went live for Clue’s UK users today. The asynchronous consultation model means users can complete the process at their convenience rather than scheduling appointments during work hours.
The integration arrives as women’s health companies increasingly expand beyond tracking into healthcare delivery. For Clue, adding contraception access transforms the app from a passive tracking tool into an active healthcare platform that can address the needs it helps users identify.
