Wingwomen Technologies has secured $2 million in investment from a group of private investors to advance the development of its digital vaginal speculum, Nina. The funding announcement comes on the heels of the company winning the FemTech Product of the Year award at the MedTech World Awards in Dubai this past February.

The $2 million investment will be instrumental in scaling production, expanding research, and accelerating the commercialization of the Nina platform. The funds will also support Wingwomen Technologies’ efforts to reduce medical waste and explore potential applications for remote robotic procedures, which could make cervical cancer screenings, HPV testing, and colposcopies more accessible globally.

“Winning this award is more than just a recognition of innovation—it’s proof that rethinking both design and commercialization strategy can open doors that were once closed. For years, I explored reimagining the vaginal speculum, but after nearly giving up, it was the encouragement of a European regulator at the end of last year that pushed me to try again. The investment and commitment of resources only came after the win—where before, there was nothing,” said Adonica Shaw, Founder & CEO of Wingwomen Technologies.

Shaw added, “If anything, this experience reinforces my belief that sometimes, stepping away from the noise and trusting your own intuition is more valuable than listening to too many outside voices. Female founders are constantly bombarded with feedback—some of it constructive, some of it dismissive, and some of it outright discouraging. But by following my instincts, I found validation where none existed before. And that, in itself, is the real win.”

The company’s flagship innovation, NINA, pairs a reimagined digital version of the vaginal speculum with an overhauled colposcope, transforming the traditionally large gynecological machine into a VR headset. This approach enhances bio-data collection and improves diagnostics while setting the stage for more advanced, technology-driven gynecological examinations.

Shaw nearly abandoned the project last year due to lack of investor support. “I had to consider that changing the device would automatically impact several medical procedures since the design is dramatically different from anything currently available. That’s when I made the pivotal decision to integrate a colposcope, recognizing that there was no way to digitize the speculum without rethinking colposcopies as well. Now, instead of the eight versions of the speculum from 2023, I have two focused medical devices and a revised concept,” she explained.

The MedTech World Awards ceremony, supported by the Dubai Health Authority and Emirates Health Services, brought together over 300 industry leaders, healthcare professionals, and investors to celebrate advancements in medical technology.

Wingwomen Technologies, founded by Shaw, develops innovative healthcare solutions prioritizing women’s health and pediatric care, with a mission to modernize medical tools and improve healthcare experiences for women worldwide.
