TMRW Life Sciences has acquired Cryogatt Systems’ patent portfolio to expand its digital specimen management capabilities and sperm storage offerings. The acquisition includes RFID methodologies for cryogenic storage systems with integrated sensor and tracking technologies, supporting TMRW’s expansion beyond its existing automated platform. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
The New York-based fertility technology company plans to use the acquired technology as the foundation for three key developments: expanded sperm storage solutions, enhanced digital management for non-TMRW storage tanks, and more robust digital audit trails for specimen management.
“These patents help lay the foundation for the next generation of TMRW’s digital solutions,” said Cynthia Hudson, Head of Clinical Strategy at TMRW Life Sciences. “We’re continuing to expand our product offering to support each fertility clinic’s unique needs—whether they’re upgrading existing infrastructure or seeking new ways to modernize their specimen storage.”
The RFID-based technology will enable TMRW to extend its safety, traceability, and security capabilities to additional sperm cryostorage offerings while allowing clinics to digitally upgrade their existing non-TMRW storage tanks. This approach addresses varying clinic needs and infrastructure constraints, enabling facilities to access TMRW’s digital tracking benefits without the capital expense of replacing functional storage systems.
TMRW’s existing platform automates the storage and management of frozen eggs, embryos, and sperm through robotics and digital identification systems. The company claims its technology reduces potential points of failure by 94% compared to manual systems while providing remote monitoring capabilities and integration with clinic EMR systems.
“As demand for fertility treatments continues to grow, clinics need solutions that are not only scalable but also raise the standard of care,” said Louis Villalba, CEO of TMRW Life Sciences. “This acquisition reflects our commitment to continued innovation and to supporting clinics with technology that goes beyond what’s required today.”
The acquisition comes as fertility treatment demand increases globally, creating pressure for clinics to modernize storage and tracking systems while maintaining specimen safety. TMRW’s approach of acquiring established RFID technology allows the company to accelerate development rather than building new tracking capabilities from scratch.
