ŌURA, the company behind the Oura Ring, a smart ring providing personalized health data, insights, and guidance, has announced the acquisition of Finnish personalized metabolic health company, Veri. Veri, which partners with continuous glucose monitors (CGM) to guide users toward healthier habits, will bring its expertise in metabolic health to ŌURA, with a significant portion of Veri’s team, including its three founders, joining ŌURA as employees.

This acquisition marks a strategic move for ŌURA, as it expands into metabolic health, a growing area of interest for its members. “Metabolic health is the natural next dimension of the Oura Ring holistic health experience, and one that our customers have told us they want,” said Tom Hale, ŌURA CEO. “ŌURA started in sleep and has always had a vision of expanding to support all aspects of health. Over time, we’ve built out our offerings across key behaviors like activity and added new health pillars like cardiovascular health, stress & resilience, and women’s health. Metabolic health is an important next horizon and the team at Veri brings deep experience in that space.”

ŌURA’s member base has shown increasing interest in how metabolic health impacts their overall well-being. According to a survey of Oura Members, 97% expressed interest in understanding how their food choices affect their health, and 53% indicated a willingness to use CGMs in the next 12 months.

Veri CEO and co-founder, Anttoni Aniebonam, shared his thoughts on the partnership: “When most people think about metabolic health, they think of weight loss and diabetes, but, like ŌURA, we’ve always had a vision centered around helping people understand their health more deeply. By bringing our experience in metabolic health to ŌURA, a like-minded Finnish brand, we have the opportunity to influence meaningful change in even more people’s lives at a faster rate than we’d be able to on our own.”

ŌURA’s acquisition of Veri also aligns with its broader vision to integrate other health data inputs and sensors, such as CGMs, into the Oura Ring experience. “The expertise of Veri’s team will help accelerate this vision, strengthening our product and opening up new avenues for metabolic health offerings,” Hale added.

As part of this new focus, ŌURA will introduce a feature called “Meals” this fall. This tool will help members track meal timing and its impact on their health metrics like sleep, stress, and recovery, based on their chronotype. The feature will be available in Oura Labs, the company’s innovation hub that allows users to test new features and provide feedback.

ŌURA’s acquisition of Veri follows a period of growth for the company, which has sold over 2.5 million rings and expanded its member base globally. ŌURA also increased its retail footprint through partnerships with Amazon, Target, and others, and has grown its commercial business by expanding its partnerships with military institutions such as the Naval Health Research Center and the Air Force.

Existing Veri customers will be supported through the end of 2024. The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions.
