OpenAI has announced ChatGPT Health, a dedicated section within ChatGPT designed for health and wellness queries. The feature allows users to connect medical records and wellness apps including Apple Health, Function, MyFitnessPal, and Weight Watchers to provide personalized responses.

According to OpenAI, over 230 million people globally ask health and wellness questions on ChatGPT each week, making health one of the most common use cases for the platform.

ChatGPT Health operates as a separate space within the app with additional privacy protections. Health conversations are stored separately from other chats, have separate memories, and are not used to train OpenAI’s foundation models. The company says the feature includes purpose-built encryption and isolation for health data.

Users in the United States can connect medical records through b.well, a health data network. Apple Health integration requires iOS. Additional integrations include AllTrails, Instacart, and Peloton.

OpenAI says the feature was developed over two years in collaboration with more than 260 physicians practicing across 60 countries and dozens of specialties. The physician network has provided feedback on model outputs over 600,000 times. The company created HealthBench, an evaluation framework using physician-written rubrics to assess response quality based on safety, clarity, and appropriate escalation of care.

The company emphasizes that ChatGPT Health is designed to support, not replace, medical care and is not intended for diagnosis or treatment. Use cases include understanding lab results, preparing questions for doctor appointments, and getting advice on diet and exercise routines.

Access is currently limited to a waitlist, with availability for users on ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans outside the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. OpenAI plans to expand access in the coming weeks.
