New research from neurotech company Parasym has revealed that targeting the vagus nerve through neuromodulation can significantly reduce symptoms of endometriosis, a condition affecting 1 in 10 women in the UK. Parasym’s wearable device, Nurosym, has shown a 78% reduction in inflammation and a 50% increase in heart rate variability (HRV), which are key factors in managing endometriosis.

Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus, causing chronic pain and other severe symptoms. Research has found that women with endometriosis often experience lower vagus nerve activity, which regulates stress and other bodily functions. This imbalance leads to lower HRV and increased pain and stress levels. Parasym’s Nurosym offers a new approach by modulating the nervous system, alleviating pain and reducing stress.

Nurosym targets the vagus nerve through electrical signals sent to the brain via a wearable device on the ear. This stimulation increases parasympathetic nervous system activity, improving vagal tone and reducing inflammation—both critical in managing endometriosis. Unlike traditional pain management devices that block pain signals, Nurosym directly addresses the mechanisms behind endometriosis symptoms.
