Job Summary:
To provide strategic leadership and oversight of projects and activities for the Medical Function and provide experienced leadership to the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) team.

Major activities include strategic input and guidance to Medical Action Strategy; interface, educate, and gain insights from external stakeholders, including but not limited to External Experts (EEs); partner with the Head of Medical Affairs to organize external expert advisory boards, scientific
symposia, and CME programs; serve as back-up for Medical review of promotional and scientific materials; and directly oversee a team of 2-3 MSLs. Lastly, partner with other internal stakeholders cross-functionally within Evofem to ensure proper alignment of MSL goals with company’s business goals.

Job Responsibilities:
• Provide effective day to day oversight, direction and leadership to the MSL team.
• Identify and develop relationships with National and Regional medical and scientific EEs and ensure that MSLs build and maintain solid and credible relationships with the medical community on Evofem’s behalf in both Academic and Community settings, specifically in Women’s Health and Family Planning.
• Ensure that each MSL is providing thoughtful exchange of current medical information related to Evofem’s products and therapeutic areas of clinical development with KOLs and others in this medical community, including external physicians, scientific experts, care teams, educators and investigators.
• Work with each MSL to develop a field Medical Affairs plan that: identifies collaborative opportunities with EEs and institutions.
• Generate and route field Medical Affairs interaction/metric reports to internal management.
• Facilitate comprehensive medical congress/conference coverage as well as providing pertinent, timely, accurate and scientifically balanced feedback from meetings attended.
• Provide educational/scientific support to Evofem’s contracted speakers.
• Serve as therapeutic area and product expert for cross-functional partners including Market Access, Commercial, Regulatory, Legal, etc.
• Support Continuing Medical Education and Publications efforts, as needed, by the Head of Medical Affairs.
• Assist with slide development, training curriculum/materials and medical writing as needed.
• Provide support to advisory board meetings as well as other scientific activities, such as medical booth at scientific meetings as needed
• Drive Medical Affairs projects as needed, exhibiting a problem-solving approach, assessment and coordination of resources, management of timelines, budgets and vendors.

Competencies:
• Must be detailed oriented, possess excellent time management skills, be well organized, able to contribute independently and display a professional demeanor.
• Must possess excellent communication and technical writing skills, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to work with others in a positive and collaborative manner; able to communicate with sense of urgency to internal and external customers.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience in medical writing required.
• In-depth scientific and/or clinical background in areas related to Women’s Health, particularly Family Planning and Sexually Transmitted Infections.
• Strong leadership skills and high-level understanding of all Medical Affairs functions including Scientific Communications, and development of scientific content, Medical Planning and Strategy, EE Engagement and Development, Continuing Medical Education, Advisory Panels, and Phase IV research.
• Experience in the appropriate and compliant exchange of scientific information and management of high functioning Medical Science Liaison teams.
Supervisory Responsibility:  Direct reports to include 2-3 MSLs.

Education and Qualifications:
• Advanced degree is required- PhD, PharmD, or MD in health care field from an accredited college or university.
• A minimum of 5 years of Pharmaceutical, Diagnostic, Device, MSL leadership experience is required.
• Established relationships with Women’s Health External Experts highly desired.
• Highly motivated self-starter with a positive attitude, possessing the initiative required to achieve desired goals independently.
• Demonstrated expertise in drug information communication.
• Demonstrated project management ability.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of FDA requirements and deep understanding of compliance regulations related to Medical Affairs.
• Strong relationship-building skills both internally and externally.
• Strong administrative management skills
• Valid driver’s license in good standing
• Located near a major airport hub or in San Diego

Travel: Approximately 50%, including MSL field rides, conference attendance and work at Corporate Office.
