iPremom has raised €15 million in a seed round led by Amadeus Capital Partners and co-led by Asabys Partners, with participation from APEX Ventures.
The Spain-based startup is developing MaiRa, a molecular diagnostics platform designed to detect pregnancy complications through a blood test. Built on data from more than 26,000 samples across 10,000 pregnancies, MaiRa uses cell-free RNA signals in maternal blood to predict the risk of conditions like preeclampsia – which impacts up to 8% of pregnancies – before symptoms arise.
“Pregnancy complications have been under-diagnosed and under-treated for generations, because the field was looking in the wrong place at the wrong time,” said iPremom Co-Founder and Chairman Professor Carlos Simón. “Our ambition is not just to build a better preeclampsia test, it is to give every pregnant woman a comprehensive, early molecular picture of her pregnancy. This funding is a critical step toward making that a clinical reality.”
While MaiRa is currently only available via iPremom’s laboratory, the latest round of funding will support clinical validation, US and EU regulatory approvals, and eventual commercialization.
