Hims & Hers has named Dr. Jessica Shepherd as the first-ever Chief Medical Officer of Hers, marking a significant milestone for the telehealth platform. The appointment suggests a strengthened commitment to specialized women’s healthcare, expanding beyond the company’s initial service offerings.

Dr. Shepherd, a board-certified OB/GYN with nearly two decades of clinical experience, brings substantial expertise in women’s health conditions often overlooked in traditional healthcare settings. Her background in endometriosis, fibroids, sexual health, and menopausal health aligns with Hers’ ambition to address women’s health needs beyond reproductive care.

The creation of this role comes at a time when women’s healthcare disparities remain stark. Recent data from the World Economic Forum and McKinsey Health Institute shows women spend 25% more of their lives in poor health than men. Meanwhile, 17% of women report being treated differently due to their sex in healthcare settings, compared to just 6% of men.

“When it comes to health and wellness, women are often unheard and unseen. There are clear issues in how women receive care and until we take care of the women who have the least amount of resources and access, we’ve got work to do,” said Dr. Jessica Shepherd. “Hers gives women agency in the healthcare decisions they make, so they can achieve better outcomes.”

The platform currently offers care across weight loss, sexual health, dermatology, and mental health. According to the company, Hers plans to expand in the coming years with access to treatment for more specific conditions associated with life stages like menopause and post-partum.

“Women’s health to us isn’t simply limited to reproductive health – it is inclusive of everything that makes a difference in how women feel about themselves and how they show up in their daily lives,” said Andrew Dudum, CEO and co-founder of Hims & Hers. “As the Hers business continues to rapidly expand, we have the opportunity to help more women access the personalized care they deserve by elevating the standard of the status quo in women’s health and wellness.”
