Foria, a natural wellness brand specializing in intimate health, has announced results from a new study published in Nature Partner Journal: Women’s Health. The research suggests that Foria’s Relief Melts, vaginal suppositories containing high levels of cannabidiol (CBD), may effectively alleviate menstrual pain and related symptoms.

The study, conducted by researchers at McLean Hospital, followed 77 women who used Foria’s Relief Melts over approximately two menstrual cycles. Their experiences were compared to 230 women using traditional pain management methods such as over-the-counter analgesics. The findings were notable. Women using the CBD suppositories reported a significant decrease in both the frequency and severity of menstrual pain compared to those using conventional painkillers. The study observed a dose-dependent effect, indicating that consistent use of the suppositories led to greater relief. By the second follow-up, over 80% of participants using Foria’s Relief Melts reported moderate to significant improvement in their symptoms.

With studies indicating that up to 91% of women experience menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea) and approximately 29% suffer from severe symptoms, these findings suggest that CBD suppositories could offer a natural alternative for managing menstrual discomfort.

The study titled “A survey-based, quasi-experimental study assessing a high-cannabidiol suppository for menstrual-related pain and discomfort” provides preliminary evidence supporting the efficacy of Foria’s hemp-derived, broad-spectrum, high-CBD (100 mg) vaginal suppositories. Over two menstrual cycles, participants reported on various aspects of their menstrual experience, including pain levels, daily functioning, and the need for additional analgesics. The CBD group demonstrated reduced frequency and severity of menstrual-related symptoms, decreased impact on daily activities, and lower reliance on traditional pain medications.

These findings may influence how menstrual pain is addressed, offering a natural option for symptom management. The study emphasizes the importance of exploring alternative therapies that align with women’s preferences for natural wellness solutions.

“It has always been our mission at Foria to offer effective, non-toxic products that support women’s health at every stage of life, including options that address common menstruation concerns, a space that has long been ignored”, says Jon Brandon, co-founder and CEO of Foria. “We’re proud to have partnered with the McLean research team on this groundbreaking new study, which underscored the benefits of Foria’s Relief Melts in addressing both the duration and severity of menstrual pain and discomfort. With traditional painkillers having often been considered to be the only option, our hope is that this study will open up new possibilities for women’s health research and be the first of many to investigate the breadth of natural and effective options out there. For the millions of women who experience menstrual-related pain in the U.S. and across the globe, this study represents a pivotal moment.”

The researchers now recommend further studies, including randomized clinical trials, to fully understand the mechanisms by which CBD provides relief and to evaluate long-term safety and efficacy.
