Daye is a female-founded gynecological health startup on a mission to close the gender gap in medical research and innovation by creating convenient products and services for period pain, at-home STI testing, and the treatment of vaginal infections. Since its inception the startup has been dedicated to raising the standards in gynecological health and making it easier for everyone to understand, monitor, and improve their menstrual, hormonal, and reproductive health.
Furthering its mission, the company has now received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a medical device for its Daye’s Nude Tampon. The tampon has been a cornerstone of the company’s offering since the very start.
Daye’s tampons undergo gamma irradiation—a rigorous sanitization process that significantly reduces the risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) and vaginal infections. They also come with a flushable wrapper, helping to reduce the non-recyclable, petrol-derived plastic waste commonly associated with many other period care products. To further ensure user health and comfort, the tampon is also equipped with an organic protective sleeve, a unique feature that prevents tampon fibers from shedding inside the vagina—an issue that could otherwise increase the risk of vaginal infections. The cotton used in the tampon is also certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), providing another layer of quality assurance. Daye has also achieved a carbon-neutral status for this product, reinforcing the company’s dedication to sustainable and responsible practices.
Next Daye plans to introduce a water-soluble tampon applicator and is working on a Pain-Relieving Tampon for chronic pelvic pain, as well as on a Diagnostic Tampon to help increase access to at-home gynaecological health screenings. These additional tampon variants are all based on the foundation that the Nude Tampon provides.
Daye Founder & CEO Valentina Milanova comments: “This achievement marks a pivotal moment in our mission to enhance the health and well-being of women & AFAB individuals. Our Nude Tampon underwent rigorous evaluation before its approval, demonstrating the product’s safety and efficacy. This milestone validates the extensive research, development, and testing that have gone into creating a product that not only meets the highest medical standards but also addresses the menstrual care needs of people with periods.”
She continues: “We are immensely proud of this achievement, which would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of our research and development teams, regulatory experts, and all those who supported us throughout this journey. With the FDA’s stamp of approval, we are excited to bring the Nude Tampon to women & AFAB folks across the US, offering them a new level of care during their menstrual cycles.”
