Channel Medsystems has secured $30 million in an ongoing Series C round, led by returning investor InnovaHealth Partners, LP, to commercialize its endometrial cryotherapy treatment Cerene.
Designed to treat heavy menstrual bleeding and dysmenorrhea – severe period pain – in premenopausal women who have completed childbearing, the treatment is a 2.5-minute non-hormonal, minimally invasive procedure that requires no anesthesia. Rather than using incisions, FDA-cleared Cerene delivers cryotherapy to the endometrium through the cervix, freezing and destroying tissue linked to heavy bleeding.
The treatment leaves the uterine cavity intact for future evaluation. In a clinical trial, 90% of Cerene patients reported light, normal, or no periods, and 86% experienced reduced dysmenorrhea.
Channel Medsystem’s latest round of funding will support the recently relaunched treatment’s commercial expansion into OB/GYN offices nationwide, along with patient exposure and provider training.
