Women’s healthcare company Bonafide released findings from its sixth annual “State of Menopause” survey, polling over 2,000 symptomatic women aged 40–64. Building on last year’s findings, the report highlights emotional and cognitive challenges of perimenopause, alongside the need for greater awareness and support.

For many women, menopause extends well beyond hot flashes, with anxiety, depression, and panic attacks considered the most disruptive.50% said menopause negatively affected cognitive function and 60% experienced mental health impacts. Many respondents also said they felt overwhelmed by daily responsibilities and were surviving rather than thriving.

The effects carry into work – 56% noticed a decline in motivation, 48% reported a drop in income, and 27% concealed  symptoms from employers. Meanwhile, only 7% of respondents were aware of workplace menopause accommodations, down from last year.

Feeling isolated, women are turning to peers for reassurance. While 71% said they didn’t recognize their symptoms at first, 62% said talking to other women makes them realize they aren’t imagining their experience. Craving connection, nearly 40% identified affirmation as the most valuable outcome of those conversations, driving many to Reddit threads and social media influencers for advice.

Women in perimenopause reported nearly every symptom and challenge at higher rates than those in menopause, reinforcing the need for earlier education, mental health support, and care tailored to the transition.
