JOB SUMMARY
The Infectious Disease Technical Supervisor will be responsible for the technical and scientific oversight of the laboratory including providing leadership and direction for the overall clinical pathology testing, quality assurance, staff management as well as supporting the lab’s growth by standing up new lines of testing within the lab including supervising validation testing and developing SOPs.
The ideal candidate will have experience in high-complexity testing or procedures specifically including Infectious Disease (i.e, Immunology, Serology, Microbiology). This role is responsible for ensuring the lab is executing on and delivering against specific SOPs and MLAs in this consumer-initiated, at-home collection laboratory testing business.

What You’ll Do:

- Provide technical supervision for each of the specialties and sub-specialties of service in which the laboratory performs high complexity tests or procedures specifically including Infectious Disease (i.e, Immunology, Serology, Microbiology).
- Monitor test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.
- Ensure adequacy of supplies and appropriate functioning of equipment.
- Administrate and technically supervise the clinical laboratory in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.
- Evaluate the capabilities of all testing personnel and general supervisor’s testing performance to assure that the staff maintain their competency to perform test procedures and report test results promptly, accurately and proficiently.
- Maintain licensures as applicable and participates in continuing education
- Evaluate and document the performance of individuals responsible for high complexity testing at least semiannually during the first year the individual tests patient specimens and thereafter at least annually unless test methodology or instrumentation changes.
- Select the test methodology that is appropriate for the clinical use of the test results.
- Verify the test procedures performed and establish the laboratory’s test performance characteristics, including the precision and accuracy of each test and test system.
- Enroll and participate in an HHS approved (and/or State approved as applicable) proficiency testing program and commensurate with the services offered.
- Establish a quality control program appropriate for the testing performed, establish the parameters for acceptable levels of analytic performance and ensure that these levels are maintained throughout the entire testing process from the initial receipt of the specimen, through sample analysis and reporting of test results.
- Identify training needs and assure that each individual performing tests receives regular in-service training and education appropriate for the type and complexity of the laboratory services performed.
- Develop core procedures and policies for instrumentation and processes Coordinate pre-inspection evaluations, post-inspection responses and interim-self inspections with lab management and staff with the expectation that the lab should be prepared and operate on a day to day basis to result in no deficiencies on any scheduled, random or unannounced inspection from any accrediting agency including but not limited to CLIA, COLA, OSHA, Department of Health, State, etc.
- Evaluate and assist with lean projects in the laboratory that will improve overall processes to help the company provide quality care in a cost effective and timely manner to its patients.
- Resolve technical problems and ensure that remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications
- Ensure that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is functioning properly
- Perform other duties/tasks as assigned
Who You Are:

- Bachelor’s Degree
- Validation of LDT Methodologies
- Registered as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) with the American Society of Clinical Pathology or acceptable equivalent
- Obtain Technical Supervisor or equivalent State license(s)/certification(s) for position as required by State Law and laboratory and maintain competency/training as necessary to perform MLS testing duties in the laboratory
- At least 5 years of experience in all areas of laboratory testing being performed
- Demonstrated experience in Infectious Disease State/Federal reporting and Infectious Disease testing by screen and confirmation
