Eight Sleep, the sleep technology company behind the Pod smart mattress cover, has launched Pregnancy Mode – a feature that uses AI to automatically adjust sleep temperature week by week throughout pregnancy and up to 24 weeks postpartum, based on 45,000 nights of pregnancy and postpartum sleep data.
The feature is built on the insight that pregnancy changes temperature needs in measurable, predictable ways. Eight Sleep’s data shows that by the third trimester, women consistently set their Pod approximately 3°F cooler than before pregnancy, with temperature preferences returning close to pre-pregnancy baseline by about eight weeks postpartum. Once activated, Pregnancy Mode recalibrates around a member’s pregnancy stage and pre-pregnancy metrics, adjusting temperature recommendations each night as the body’s needs evolve.
“Pregnancy changes a woman’s body every week, but most sleep products treat her like nothing has changed,” said co-founder Alexandra Zatarain. “Pregnancy Mode moves beyond tracking to action, helping the Pod adapt her sleep environment in real time from the first trimester through postpartum.”
The feature also surfaces pregnancy-specific insights for resting heart rate, HRV, breath rate, sleep stages, and snoring – showing how each metric is changing relative to the member’s own pre-pregnancy baseline and what’s typical for their stage. It’s compatible with Eight Sleep’s Hot Flash mode for members experiencing pregnancy-related hot flashes.
Pregnancy Mode is powered by Eight Sleep’s Women’s Sleep Initiative, a multi-year research program that has analyzed more than 344,000 nights of sleep from over 5,000 women across the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, menopause, and hot flashes.
“Women’s sleep is not broken. Sleep environments simply have not been designed for female physiology,” said Dr. Nicole Moyen, senior director of science and clinical research. “Pregnancy is the clearest example of that. The body is changing every week. Pregnancy Mode allows the Pod to respond to those changes automatically in support of better sleep.”
The feature begins rolling out May 10 to all subscribed Eight Sleep members.
