Anthropic has announced Claude for Healthcare, a set of tools enabling healthcare providers, payers, and consumers to use the AI assistant for medical purposes through HIPAA-ready products. The company also expanded its Claude for Life Sciences offering with new connectors to clinical trial and regulatory platforms.

The healthcare tools include connectors to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Coverage Database, ICD-10 diagnosis and procedure codes, and the National Provider Identifier Registry. These integrations allow Claude to support prior authorization checks, medical coding, billing accuracy, provider verification, and claims management.

Anthropic has also added agent skills for FHIR development, the standard for exchanging data between healthcare systems, and a customizable prior authorization review template.

“These tools can be used to speed up prior authorization requests so that patients can get life saving care more quickly, can help with patient care coordination to reduce the pressures on clinicians’ time, and help with regulatory submissions so that more life saving drugs can come to market faster,” the company said.

For individual users, Claude Pro and Max subscribers in the United States can now connect personal health data through HealthEx and Function, with Apple Health and Android Health Connect integrations rolling out this week. Claude can summarize medical history, explain test results, and help users prepare questions for doctor appointments. Anthropic says it does not use health data to train its models.

The life sciences expansion adds connectors to Medidata for clinical trial data, ClinicalTrials.gov, bioRxiv and medRxiv preprint servers, Open Targets, ChEMBL, and Owkin’s pathology analysis tools. These join existing connectors to Benchling, 10x Genomics, PubMed, and others.

New agent skills support clinical trial protocol drafting, scientific problem selection, and bioinformatics workflows. The clinical trial skill generates protocol drafts that account for FDA and NIH requirements, endpoint recommendations, and regulatory pathways.

The features are available to Claude Pro, Max, Teams, and Enterprise subscribers.
