Medicines360 has acquired global rights to PeriPeach, an investigational medical device designed to prevent severe perineal tears during childbirth. The device will advance through Medicines360’s 360 Innovation Hub platform for developing women’s health solutions.

PeriPeach targets obstetric anal sphincter injuries (OASIS), also known as severe perineal tears, which affect up to 90% of first-time mothers and 70% of mothers in subsequent births during vaginal delivery. Advanced imaging shows nearly one in five women sustain significant injuries to deep pelvic floor muscles that support the bladder, uterus, and rectum.

The device was invented by gynecologist Dr. Tess Kim and has received recognition including the 2023 Harvard Innovation Labs Social Impact Fellowship Fund and the 2025 Harvard President’s Innovation Challenge Award.

“We are excited to welcome PeriPeach into our 360 Innovation Hub and expand our portfolio with a solution that directly targets one of the most serious and preventable maternal injuries: obstetric anal sphincter injuries (OASIS),” said Dr. Andrea Olariu, CEO of Medicines360. “With PeriPeach, our goal is to reduce the risk of severe perineal tears, shorten recovery, and protect mothers from long-term consequences.”

Complications from severe perineal tears include wound infections, chronic pain, sexual dysfunction, and fecal incontinence. These injuries are also linked to higher rates of postpartum depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.

During birth, pelvic floor muscles stretch to three times their original size, and injuries sustained may not heal properly, leading to lifelong pelvic floor disorders. PeriPeach aims to prevent these complications before they occur.

“I’m thrilled that PeriPeach is joining Medicine360’s Innovation Hub portfolio. I’ve been a huge fan of Medicines360 since I was a medical student. We share a deep commitment to ensuring that innovation and equity go hand in hand,” said Dr. Kim.

The acquisition expands Medicines360’s portfolio of women’s health solutions through its 360 Innovation Hub, which focuses on transforming ideas into life-changing products for women while ensuring accessibility from development stages.

More than 3.6 million women in the United States and 140 million worldwide give birth annually, yet preventable childbirth injuries remain a major driver of long-term pelvic floor disorders.

PeriPeach is an investigational device not cleared for sale or use in the United States or internationally. Medicines360 acquired the rights from Fruits of Labor, Inc., the medical device company founded by Dr. Kim focused on improving obstetrics and gynecology care through patient-centered innovation.
