Willow Innovations, known for their wearable breast pumps, has introduced Ema, an AI-powered support tool integrated into the Willow App. The new feature aims to provide maternal health support through a conversational AI interface designed specifically for new mothers.
Ema offers guidance on topics ranging from breastfeeding and pumping to postpartum recovery and maternal mental health. Unlike traditional AI platforms that rely on internet scraping, the HIPAA-secure tool draws from a proprietary database of expert-backed content.
“New moms don’t have enough support – for their feeding and parenting journey, or in their postpartum care. We’re thrilled to partner with Ema to offer moms personalized information along this journey,” said Sarah O’Leary, CEO of Willow and mother of two. “AI tools, when implemented thoughtfully, can help close gaps in delivering personalized guidance at an efficient scale.”
The AI tool has been trained on insights from 100,000 women’s interactions and Willow-specific content to provide what the company describes as an experience similar to “talking with their favorite postpartum L&D nurse.” Users can receive personalized guidance by sharing specific details about their situation.
“Ema and Willow have a shared mission to make lasting improvements in women’s health and we built a one-of-a-kind solution that addresses the unique challenges mothers face regularly,” said Amanda Ducach, Founder of Ema. “Our partnership represents a critical advancement for today’s mothers and demonstrates how responsible AI can improve the maternal care experience.”
