Almond, a tech-enabled OBGYN practice in Los Angeles, is set to introduce its Group Pregnancy Care service. This launch aims to improve maternal health outcomes amidst the ongoing maternal mortality crisis in the United States, which has the highest rate of maternal mortality among high-income nations.
The new Group Pregnancy Care model offers a collaborative approach to prenatal care, which has been shown in clinical studies to yield better pregnancy outcomes. Despite the positive results associated with group-based models, such services remain underutilized in the U.S., particularly among patients with commercial insurance. Led by Board Certified doctors, including Almond’s Founding ObGyn, Dr. Christy Evans, the group care program combines comprehensive medical care with community support and education to enhance the pregnancy experience.
“Together with our expert team, we build a supportive nest that delivers better outcomes,” said Tara Raffi, Co-founder of Almond. “This program emphasizes both physical and emotional well-being, fostering a sense of community among expectant mothers.”
The Group Pregnancy Care program offers personalized medical attention from experienced obstetricians, alongside educational workshops covering essential topics such as nutrition, childbirth, breastfeeding, and newborn care. It encourages a supportive environment that fosters shared experiences and lasting connections among participants. The program is rooted in an integrative approach that focuses on both physical and emotional health, promoting a positive birth experience. Participants will attend ten group sessions with a consistent cohort at the same stage of their pregnancy, ensuring community-based learning.
Sessions are led by a midwife experienced in prenatal medicine and labor, allowing for in-depth discussions and monitoring of vital signs. Each 90-minute session provides opportunities for group discussion, private questions, and essential testing when necessary. Additionally, patients can select an ObGyn for their delivery, ensuring consistent care throughout their journey.
