Two weeks ago during our Inner Circle webinar I talked about how the most impactful innovation always happens at the intersection of different ecosystems showcasing what that looks like for beauty and women's health.
During that webinar I also casually mentioned two of my favorite media companies covering the beauty industry: Beauty Independent and Beauty Matter. I love to follow their content, as it challenges me to think how the beauty and health space connect and overlap.
Our webinar really seems to have struck a cord with many of you and I’ve had a few people reach out since to ask what other "neighbouring industries" I have my eye on and what I read to stay up to date on those.
So today I thought I’d share some of my favorites.
As a creator (of sorts…) myself, I tend to appreciate the insights of other independent creators, journalists at niche publications, and newsletter writers, as they seem to have the beat I’m looking for.
These publications are especially helpful for me when scouting for new trends to share with you in the Inner Circle newsletter, but also with our broader Femtech Insider audience. I'm sure you'll enjoy some of their content as well. So here it goes!
👉 Exits and Outcomes
Exits and Outcomes is a paid newsletter and media platform run by Brian Dolan, probably known to many as the former Co-founder & Lead Writer of MobiHealthNews, which was acquired by HIMSS a while back. After the exit he started Exits and Outcomes, which I read to stay up to date on digital therapeutics.
👉 Healthtech Nerds
Healthtech Nerds is a community platform with a great newsletter that covers the latest and greatest in the world of… you guessed it… healthtech. They have a great newsletter that’s free and I’ve also enjoyed being part of their paid community, which is an amazing source of knowledge and inspiration.
👉 Healthtech Pigeon
Besides obviously getting bonus points for the name, Healthtech Pigeon is a great little newsletter written by the team at SomX that summarizes healthtech happenings with a focus on the UK market.
👉 Rock Weekly
We’ll make an exception and include one VC fund newsletter in this round-up as well, as it’s a great catch-up on Mondays: The Rock Weekly, a newsletter curated by the folks over at Rock Health. It’s a weekly overview of headlines & investments into digital health companies in the US. Quick to read & to the point - I dig it!
Sidenote: There are a few other great newsletters by VC funds out there, that I read on a regular basis - and many others which I don’t. As a founder, writer and industry analyst I have a pretty good idea what makes a great one and have been fortunate to work with a few investors this year helping them better communicate with their relevant audience in a way, that creates value for their fund, industry and portfolio companies. Building on these learnings, we’re planning to offer a short session or workshop on this very topic next year: If you’re interested, get on the list and we’ll ping you as soon as this goes live!
👉 Healthcare Huddle
Jared Dashevsky is an IM resident and when he’s not busy at the hospital, he writes Healthcare Huddle where he breaks down the intersection of healthtech, policy, and business. The newsletter is written by a physician for physicians, and thus has a pretty unique view and voice, which I really appreciate.
👉 Hospitalogy
In Hospitalogy Blake Madden explains the $4.3T business of healthcare strategy, M&A, growth, and healthtech to people like me, and maybe soon you as well.
👉 Fitt Insider
Think Femtech Insider, but for the health & wellness ecosystem. I’m a regular reader of Fitt Insider, listen to their podcast and rely on their analysis of trends in the larger consumer health ecosystem. They also have a great weekly newsletter, which I recommend
👉 WellToDo
And while we’re talking about consumer health… This round-up wouldn’t be complete without a mention of Rina Raphael’s work and her newsletter WellToDo. Rina is a journalist and her substack is 1) amazing and 2) dedicated to the “latest, greatest, and strangest in wellness”. Must-read.
👉 Out-of-Pocket
When I first started Femtech Insider and was new to the healthcare space, Nikhil Krishnan’s Out of Pocket newsletter was a lifeline and continues to be one of my absolute favorites to date. You come for the memes, you stay for the content. More specifically the content that makes the business of healthcare in the US somewhat easy to understand.
👉 Psychedelics Alpha
And last, but not least: Psychedelic Alpha written by Josh Hardman, which I appreciate for its independent data-driven reporting, analysis and commentary on the psychedelics space. Josh covers anything from business and drug development through to policy reform and culture, so it’s a great primer for those new and curious about the psychedelics.
Spoiler Alert: Josh will join us for a webinar where we’ll talk all things psychedelics early next year. More on that soon! I for one am already looking forward to it!
And that’s it!
The official "2023 must-read non-women’s health newsletters for all of us in women’s health" list! I hope you enjoyed this little round-up and are adding a few of these voices to your reading list or inbox.
