Visby Medical has launched the first FDA-authorized at-home PCR test for sexually transmitted infections in women. The palm-sized test detects chlamydia, gonorrhea, and trichomoniasis in 30 minutes.

The test is available through partnerships with Everlywell, DoorDash, and Gopuff. Google Cloud is providing the infrastructure for Visby’s digital platform, which connects users from test results to medical care through Optum Now.

More than 9 million women in the United States are diagnosed with an STI each year, according to the Office on Women’s Health. Many infections present without noticeable symptoms, increasing the risk of complications including chronic pelvic pain, infertility, and ectopic pregnancies.

“We’ve created a device empowering women to take immediate control of their sexual health—privately, accurately, and on their own terms,” said Dr. Gary Schoolnik, chief medical officer at Visby Medical and Professor of Medicine at Stanford University. “By compressing the time from suspicion to treatment, we’re closing critical gaps in women’s healthcare.”

“STI testing still carries significant barriers—stigma, access, and time,” said Julia Cheek, Founder and CEO of Everlywell. “We’re breaking those down by launching Visby’s revolutionary device on Everlywell.com, empowering individuals to easily and confidently manage their sexual health at home.”

Google Cloud’s Vertex AI platform with Gemini-based functionality will enable AI-driven guidance integrated into the user interface over the next year, providing personalized patient education and wellness advice.

Visby Medical plans to launch additional products including a men’s sexual health test, a sore throat panel detecting strep and common viruses, and a urinary tract infection test with antibiotic resistance detection capability.

The test costs $149.99, covering testing and treatment consultation. Users swab themselves, insert the sample into the device, and receive results within 30 minutes through a mobile app. The test is eligible for FSA and HSA accounts.
