German startup LipoCheck has launched LipoAlly, a digital care program designed to support lipedema patients, in partnership with major insurance providers Pronova BKK and HanseMerkur. The 12-month program aims to improve quality of life for patients with lipedema, a chronic fat distribution disorder that affects approximately one in ten women.
LipoAlly offers a comprehensive digital solution that integrates into patients’ daily lives, providing structured support based on medical guidelines. The app includes symptom and therapy tracking, access to online training sessions, and masterclasses focusing on physical activity, mental health, and mindfulness.
“Our mission was it from the beginning to make it easier for those affected to access targeted help. With LipoAlly, we offer a digital solution that seamlessly integrates into the everyday lives of those affected and accompanies them on their way to a better life. We give them orientation and structure,” explains Helena Rapprich, CEO and co-founder of LipoCheck.
The program addresses a significant gap in lipedema care, where patients often face long delays in diagnosis and feel isolated in managing their condition. Despite affecting a substantial portion of women, lipedema remains poorly understood and often misdiagnosed as simple obesity. The condition can lead to significant health consequences, including physical pain, heavy limbs, psychological stress, edema, and arthritis.
“We are pleased to be able to offer our insured persons scientifically sound and practical digital support with LipoAlly. The program helps those affected to better understand and manage their illness independently. Our goal is to offer innovative care solutions that make everyday life easier for the insured and sustainably improve their quality of life,” says Anaelle Süllau-Jessen, Health Service Manager at HanseMerkur.
The app has been developed in collaboration with medical professionals with extensive lipedema experience and is now available free of charge to members of participating insurance providers. This launch represents a significant step forward in digital health solutions for women’s chronic conditions, offering structured, guideline-compliant content and methods for lipedema therapy.
