Grove Collaborative (NYSE: GROV) has partnered with the Oceanic Preservation Society (OPS) to launch The Unplastic Shop, a curated collection of approximately 500 vetted products designed to help consumers reduce plastic and chemical exposure in everyday routines.
The women’s health relevance is in the science driving the initiative: Microplastics and chemical additives commonly found in plastics and personal care products – including phthalates, BPA, PFAS, and other endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) – have been detected in human blood, brain tissue, placentas, and breast milk. Emerging research links some of these chemicals to potential impacts on fertility, cardiovascular health, and reproductive development.
“We’re now finding plastics in our brains, our hearts, our placentas – even in breast milk,” said Louie Psihoyos, co-director of The Plastic Detox and founder of OPS. “And a big part of that exposure comes from products we use every day.”
Products in The Unplastic Shop are vetted against criteria developed with OPS, prioritizing no plastic contact with anything ingested, freedom from BPA and its alternatives, PFAS-free, and selected to avoid EDCs and other substances associated with hormone disruption. The collection focuses on high-frequency routines – food storage, cookware, oral care, hair care, laundry, and cleaning – where heat, friction, or repeated use may increase exposure over time.
The launch is part of the broader “Unplastic Your Life” campaign led by OPS, which is also behind The Plastic Detox documentary now streaming on Netflix. As the intersection of environmental exposures and women’s health continues to gain attention – particularly around fertility, pregnancy outcomes, and hormonal health – initiatives that translate the science into actionable consumer choices are likely to become increasingly relevant.
