Mabel, a Paris-based women’s health startup, has officially launched following two years of research and development and a €600K pre-seed funding round. The company focuses on addressing women’s mental health through microdosing programs and mushroom-based supplements.
The launch responds to current mental health statistics showing that 40% of women suffer from burnout, 24% from anxiety, 19% from other mental health issues, and 17% use antidepressants.
The company’s main offering is the Mindful Microdosing Program, which provides a five-week supply of psilocybin truffles sourced from the Netherlands, along with access to the Mabel app. The app includes classes and exercises created by Dr. Shauna Shapiro, a California-based psychologist and mindfulness expert, alongside journal tools and intention guides.
“Psilocybin has the potential to transform how we approach mental health, offering relief where traditional treatments often fall short,” says Pernille Brostrup, founder of Mabel. “Our program is a game-changer for women’s mental well-being.”
The company has also developed two non-psychedelic products: Morning Manna and Midnight Manna, liquid blends of functional mushrooms. Morning Manna contains Lion’s Mane and Cordyceps mushrooms for energy and cognition, while Midnight Manna uses Reishi and Chaga mushrooms for rest and rejuvenation.
The pre-seed funding round included investments from Jacques-Antoine Granjon (Veepee), Bertrand Letartre (Anios), and Reza Malakadesh (Partech & French Tech San Francisco).
“The resurgence of fungi and particularly psilocybin is nothing short of remarkable,” adds Pernille Brostrup. “Their potential represents the most promising advances in mental health over the past 30 years. We believe women are ready to find relief, and reclaim their fundamental energy and resilience. We are thrilled to have this opportunity to further women’s well-being.”
Caroline Brostrup, co-founder and former marketing executive, comments: “With Mabel we hope to democratize the knowledge of mushrooms and their promising potential for women’s (and men’s well-being). We want to be a part of the narrative as an educational source of how we can take agency in our own well-being journey.”
The company’s development team includes Dr. Amir Lotfi, an in-house neuroscientist who developed the microdosing program’s protocols and dosing guidelines.
According to market projections cited by Mabel, the mental health market is expected to grow by 36% to reach $526.21 billion by 2030, while the psychedelics market is projected to expand from $4.9 billion to $11.8 billion by 2029.
