San Francisco-based Future Family has launched Orange Shield, a new IVF insurance program for the United States market. The program, which the company describes as the first of its kind nationwide in the US, offers American families financial protection during their fertility journey by providing a refund of treatment costs if IVF is unsuccessful after two cycles.
For US patients, the insurance program covers treatments averaging USD 40,000 for two cycles, with an initial payment of USD 3,000 and monthly payments of USD 999 for five months. If patients don’t achieve a live birth after two cycles, they can file a claim to receive a refund, which can then be used to pursue additional cycles or explore other family-building options.
“Our goal is simple: to help build more families by making IVF successful, easy to afford, and less stressful,” said Claire Tomkins, Founder and CEO of Future Family. “As a mom to three IVF kids, I know firsthand the heartbreak and expenses that can come with building a family via IVF. The process can be emotionally and financially overwhelming, and our team is focused on providing the best solutions to bring peace of mind to couples.”
The US program was developed in collaboration with several industry partners. Munich Re Ventures (MRV), which has invested in insurtech companies like NEXT Insurance and Hippo, brings expertise in risk and technology. Milliman, a leading US actuarial firm, contributed to product design and pricing, while BMS, a premier reinsurance broker, leads the reinsurance strategy.
Dr. William Schoolcraft, Founder and Chief Medical Officer of CCRM Fertility, emphasized the importance of financial protection in fertility treatment: “As medical director of the Colorado Center for Reproductive Medicine, I’ve seen the emotional and financial toll IVF can take on families. Families deserve a financial safety net for one of the most significant journeys of their lives, and Future Family’s IVF Insurance delivers exactly that.”
The program, named Orange Shield to reflect the color’s historical symbolism of fertility, aims to simplify the insurance process. “Orange Shield is one of the most consumer-friendly and impactful products I’ve ever worked on,” said Jason Sellers, General Manager of IVF Insurance. “You buy the insurance upfront, and if you don’t achieve a live birth after two cycles, you file a claim, and we send your money back. It’s simple, transparent, and designed to remove the financial fear from this deeply personal journey.”
Future Family has already supported over 10,000 families through their fertility journeys with financing, one-on-one coaching, and concierge care, extending over USD 200 million in credit to American families. Orange Shield is now available at participating clinics across the United States.
