India is the seventh-largest country by area and the second most populous country in the world. The country may have been a bit late to the tech party initially, but its startup scene is ramping up and has shown some impressive growth over the past few years. Unsurprisingly it is also home to a number of innovative companies tackling women’s health both locally and globally. Today we want to introduce you to nine of them. So without further due, here’s our selection of Indian femtech startups we’re watching this year!
CareMother by CareNx
India-based CareNx focuses on mHealth as technology platform to offer solutions for personalised and remote healthcare in important areas of healthcare with unique approach. CareMother first product, offers a mobile platform for pregnant women to connect with gynecologists and at door medical tests with portable medical kit. It’s a complete pregnancy care solution.
Sheroes
India-based SHEROES is a women-only social platform, a safe, trusted, high-empathy and constructive space, powered by communities, a chat-based helpline, resources, opportunities and conversations. The SHEROES network is also home to Babygogo and Maya health platforms. SHEROES also hosts the #SHEROESSummit, a multi-city annual event and #TheSHIFT Series – changing the gender narrative, alongside community meets across geographies. To its enterprise customers, SHEROES offers a range of products including Brand Solutions, SHE – prevention of sexual harassment at work platform and a Managed Remote Solutions program.
Smart Scope Cx by Periwinkle Technologies
We are a growing medtech startup with a mission to provide timely and better diagnostics and care through innovative products. We offer digital devices as well as smart software for healthcare. The Smart Scope® is a hand-held imaging device that comes with a tablet-based telemedicine system with Artificial Intelligence-enabled image assessment for classification of abnormalities in a body cavity so that a trained health-worker can provide test results in a single visit. The Smart Scope® CX enables a single-visit, point-of-care gynac screening test for cervical abnormalities including pre-cancer.
CervAstra by AIndra
Although cervical cancer has a higher gestation period, due to lack of affordable and accessible screening tests in developing countries, the count of women detected with Cervical Cancer is rising and so is the mortality. CervAstra, AInrda’s first product to detect Cervical Cancer is built using ASTRA, our Computational Pathology platform. CervAstra analyzes pap smear samples at the Point-of-Care to call out Normal or Abnormal all in under a few hours as opposed to a larger turnaround time of a few weeks depending on the location of sample collection.
Celes Care
Celes Care is a virtual health clinic for women’s health. The Indian comapny is on a mission to radically change the healthcare experience for consumers. They provide their users with medical guidance about their health via a private web-chat interface. Their female doctors are specially trained in women’s health issues and can provide information and guidance on a range of topics including fertility, pregnancy, thyroid, PCOS, weight control, skin care, etc.
Oowomaniya
Oowomaniya is a multi-faceted platform for women to “know-share-speak” about their emotional and intimate health issues, doubts and questions. The primary goal is to create a safe space for women to be able to share personal problems which is one of the major concerns in India. Socio-cultural barriers add to the resistance. OoWomaniya engages experts like psychologists, counselors, fitness trainers and gynecologists to provide consultation and health related services online and offline.
Carmesi
Carmesi is an all-natural & eco-friendly intimate care brand for women. Based in India, Carmesi offers intimate hygiene products such as sanitary pads and panty liners, that are all natural and biodegradable. Presently, Carmesi sells its products online on the Carmesi’s website and in various online shops. The USP of the brand is that unlike synthetic intimate hygiene products, Carmesi makes its products with the finest natural ingredients, that are safe for a woman’s body as well as the environment.
NIRAMAI
NIRAMAI has developed a novel breast cancer screening solution that uses Thermalytix, i.e. machine intelligence over thermography images. Their cloud hosted analytics solution uses big data analytics, artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms for early & accurate breast cancer screening.
Pregbuddy
PregBuddy started out as a WhatsApp group and has since become a peer-to-peer platform for expecting mothers. The startup provides personalised care through health experts and doctors, from pre-conception to the early years of motherhood. Goal is to help women trying to conceive, pregnant women and recent mothers with education and care.
