FamilyWell Health has closed an $8 million Series A funding round led by New Markets Venture Partners, with participation from .406 Ventures, GreyMatter Capital, The Alix Foundation, The Donna Fund, and The Lee Foundation. The company will use the funding to expand its integrated mental health services for women across the United States and add perimenopause and menopause care to its existing maternal mental health offering.

FamilyWell embeds virtual mental health services into women’s health clinics and health systems, providing care coordination, coaching, therapy, and psychiatry. The company reports that one in four pregnant patients at partner clinics are referred to FamilyWell, with 70% of patients achieving clinical remission within four months.

“This funding enables us to deliver and expand high-quality, integrated mental health care in partnership with women’s health practices and health systems where patients already receive their care—from fertility, pregnancy and postpartum, through menopause and beyond,” said Dr. Jessica Gaulton, founder and CEO of FamilyWell Health.

The company currently operates in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Illinois, and Texas, covering more than 200,000 lives.

Women are twice as likely as men to experience depression and anxiety, with nearly one in three facing a mental health condition during their lifetime. Despite recommendations for universal screening, fewer than 10% of Medicaid members and fewer than 4% of privately insured patients are screened for postpartum depression, according to HEDIS data. When screening does occur, up to 80% of affected women remain untreated due to barriers to care.

FamilyWell’s expansion into perimenopause and menopause addresses a market of more than 50 million women in the United States, up to 70% of whom experience mental health symptoms including anxiety, depression, insomnia, and cognitive changes during this life stage.

“By integrating proven women’s mental health care into everyday clinical workflows, FamilyWell reduces suffering, strengthens family wellbeing, and helps parents return to work and thrive,” said Mark Grovic, general partner and founder of New Markets Venture Partners.

The company is also advancing its AI capabilities to broaden access, and expanding its FamilyWell Academy, which trains providers in perinatal, perimenopause and menopause behavioral health through certification programs.

FamilyWell Health was founded in 2022 by Dr. Gaulton, a physician at Harvard.
