The READI Project (Research in Europe and Diversity Inclusion), a consortium of 75 organizations across 18 countries, has completed its first year of work aimed at addressing the underrepresentation of specific populations in European clinical studies – a persistent gap that has historically affected women’s health research.
The project published its first scientific article, “The READI European project: Enhancing inclusivity in clinical research,” in the European Journal of Clinical Investigation. Other first-year milestones include progress on a patient-centered digital platform designed to improve access to study information for underserved and underrepresented populations, mapping clinical site capabilities across Europe, and establishing Ethics and Scientific Advisory Boards.
READI is coordinated by SERMAS (Servicio Madrileño de Salud) through Hospital Universitario La Paz in Spain and led by Novartis, with support from The Synergist in Belgium.
In 2026, the consortium plans to pilot the digital platform, finalize descriptions of underserved and underrepresented populations, propose methodologies to make clinical protocol design more representative, and initiate use cases evaluating the real-world applicability of its tools.
