Elation Health, a primary care technology platform serving over 50,000 clinical users and 24 million patients, has acquired Aster, an AI-native EHR focused on women’s health. The acquisition brings Aster’s team and autonomous AI agent technology into Elation’s platform as the company builds what it describes as the first agentic operating system for primary care.
Aster was co-founded by sisters Fifi Kara (a Y Combinator alum and former Meta Health & Fitness design lead) and Dr. Lailah Kara-Newton, who practiced obstetrics and gynecology for over seven years and published research with the WHO and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. The founding story is personal: Dr. Kara-Newton experienced undiagnosed preeclampsia during her first pregnancy, resulting in an emergency C-section and NICU admission for her son. They built Aster to prevent similar outcomes through better technology for women’s health providers.
The team built Atlas, a voice agent that automates front-office tasks for healthcare practices. Founded in 2023, Aster had raised $2.8 million from Zeal Capital Partners, Cornerstone Ventures, Octopus Ventures, and others.
“From the moment we met the Elation leadership team, it was clear we were aligned on what matters most: that clinicians deserve truly incredible software that brings joy back to their practice,” said Fifi Kara. “Together, we can now bring that vision to millions of primary care patients across the country.”
While Aster’s women’s health-specific EHR won’t continue as a standalone product, the AI expertise and autonomous agent capabilities it developed for women’s health workflows now feed into a platform reaching millions of patients – potentially embedding women’s health intelligence into primary care infrastructure at scale.
