CooperSurgical has introduced a new single-hand inserter for its Paragard intrauterine copper contraceptive (IUD). Recently approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), this new inserter is designed to simplify the insertion process, making Paragard more accessible for healthcare providers and patients.

Paragard has been a trusted option for over 30 years, offering more than 99% efficacy in preventing pregnancy for up to 10 years. The new inserter, with its single-hand functionality and built-in loading tip, is intended to streamline the placement procedure without altering the IUD’s well-established reliability.

Dr. Lee P. Shulman, a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist and professor at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine, commented on the new design: “Paragard has been a reliable contraceptive choice for patients for over three decades due to its continuous 10-year efficacy, immediate reversibility, and hormone-free composition. The new single-hand inserter is intuitive for providers. It simplifies the insertion process, making it convenient for healthcare providers and their patients.”

Holly Sheffield, President of CooperSurgical, added, “We are constantly striving to meet the evolving needs of healthcare providers, and the patients they serve. With nearly 8 million women choosing Paragard, the new inserter simplifies the placement process and aligns with our mission to deliver innovative and safe solutions that positively impact the lives of patients and providers everywhere.”
