We are looking for an experienced Research Data Engineer to join our Science team. You will work closely with the Head of Research Partnerships and Research Project Manager and will have a key role in Oura’s strategic research activities. You’ll oversee and ensure that Oura’s R&D and research partner data sets are organized, meet our QA/QC standards, are auditable and easily accessible by the appropriate stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will be an independent, self-starter who will take initiative, see projects through to completion, and understands the unique priorities and demands of complex projects with multiple cross-functional stakeholders. Strong relationship building, communication, and leadership skills are essential as the Research Data Engineer will continuously work with new, external teams that have varying objectives and degrees of experience.
The Research Data Engineer also serves as an external company representative and will continuously utilize and refine the above stated soft skills as research and development partnerships often lead to independent validation, scientific publications, B2B sales, Enterprise sales, and additional research opportunities.
Requirements
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
- Master degree with 2+ years experience in clinical data management or related field
- Bachelor degree with 4+ years experience in clinical data management or related field
- Experience working with data from wearable devices / digital health technologies
- Background in human clinical research
- 1+ year experience working in Python scripting language
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience handling large datasets generated by wearable devices
- Experience working with academic/industry research teams and managing vendors
- Experience building, training, and managing a small team
- Experience working with relational database using SQL
- Demonstrated skill with basic coding to streamline data QA/QC
- Familiar with scripting and automation
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Flexible to changing priorities, detail-oriented, works well under pressure and able to take on unfamiliar tasks
- Manage data quality assessment / quality control (QA/QC) and audit
- Experience working in a regulated environment. An expert understanding of relevant global regulatory requirements pertaining to data management, electronic records, etc.
Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Working with research coordinators, algorithm engineers, data scientists and research scientists to ensure that we are collecting high quality data in our research studies
- Providing oversight and direction of data management activities for all Oura research studies
- Managing the entire data lifecycle of our research studies specifying data requirements, processes required, acceptance criteria, and data integrity inspection
- Designing complete data management quality plan and offering solutions to address quality concerns
- Designing, implementing, and reviewing database design specifications, edit checks, and case report forms based on study specification
- Developing and maintaining data management related standard operating procedures as appropriate
- Collaborating with team members and vendors to support the study set-up, maintenance, and project closeout of data management activities
- Working with cross functional teams to plan and implement the data management needs for their studies
- Generate automatic and manual queries, identifying and resolving inconsistencies in the output files
- Support analysis of the data and the preparation of interim and final reports
- The archiving of study databases and related documents
- Be fluent in Oura’s research data and equipment capabilities
