We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Senior BI Developer on our Information Technology team.  As a Senior BI Developer you will design and develop solutions for Business Intelligence across the American Medical Association. You will also provide business intelligence solutions to business stakeholders; translate business needs into analytics/reporting requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under minimal supervision, create enterprise reporting and business intelligence solutions. This includes establishing the vision, gathering requirements, gaining business consensus, mentoring business and development resources, deliver solutions, training and documentation.  Provides standards and guidelines for the design & development, tuning, deployment and maintenance of business reporting and analytics needs.
  • Participates and leads discussions with the business and identifies key areas for improvement for the purpose of incorporating goals into ongoing & future business intelligence initiatives.  Liaison with other IT departments to maintain data access performance, stability and availability.  Work with other IT departments to manage system capacity and to scale existing systems as necessary.
  • Monitor industry sources for proven practices for delivery and management of data solutions.
  • Provide technical direction and guidance to the business, acting in an advisory capacity when required.  Assist with data and business intelligence prototype solutions as necessary.

May include other responsibilities as assigned. 

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business Administration or related field or equivalent experience is required.
  2. Minimum 8 years of hands on experience in one or more areas: data warehouse, business intelligence, data extraction/transformation, data architecture and data management.
  3. Minimum 5 years’ of experience in data architecture, design and development using a range of specific technologies such as Informatica, SAP Business Objects, Tableau and Microsoft BI stacks.
  4. Experience working directly with the business in defining and developing solutions is required.
  5. Must be able to translate business requirements into technical specifications.
  6. Demonstrates a solid understanding of data analytics, including sampling and profiling of data.
  7. Strong SQL skills are required.
  8. Understands capabilities of key technologies, and assess applicability to business problem.
  9. Ability to express complex technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  10. Ability to work well with people from varying degrees of technical experience.
