We’re looking for a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join our senior leadership team. The ideal candidate will have great people skills, strong business acumen and experience in a scaling startup. In addition to managing a high performing team, you’ll be responsible for improving the success of internal business operations as well as stakeholder communications.
What you’ll be doing:
- Lead and mentor a high performing operations team, spanning a diverse set of domain expertise including finance/accounting, legal, compliance, HR, clinical operations and office management.
- Support the clinical operations of the company particularly focused on providing coaching services in an effective and efficient manner. Support the development of the company’s research agenda and strategy in partnership with the business units.
- Provide oversight of Ovia’s financials in coordination with the Controller with a focus on actionable insights and data oriented metrics. In coordination with GMs, responsible for maintaining profitability of the company. Ensure Ovia has proper operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures to meet operational and financial targets.
- Lead the legal efforts to ensure we reduce risk through our contracting process, while incorporating protections that are advantageous to Ovia.
- Lead compliance efforts to ensure that Ovia is in compliance with all state and federal legislation.
- Oversee HR strategy focused on building transparency with company communication, increasing employee engagement and building systems and processes around increased employee performance. Continue to refine our hiring strategy to ensure we hire only A players.
- Implement and lead business operations metrics and strategy. Establish shared understanding across the company on priorities, resources and progress towards those priorities (KPIs). Create and lead stakeholder engagement and communications strategy at employee, management team, investor & Board level.
- Partner with the CEO to ensure consistent communication, appropriate involvement and actionable decision-making at the proper time. Work in collaboration with the CEO to set CEO’s strategic priorities; support in crafting space, time and focus to determine metrics for success. Revisit regularly and evaluate progress.
- Participate actively on the senior leadership team and in any fundraising activities.
- Serve as a leader, facilitating best practices, demonstrating a high level of excellence and professionalism throughout the organization.
Requirements
- 10+ years experience thriving in a fast paced environment
- Demonstrated experience (5+ years) leading through change and ambiguity
- Effective delegation skills with the humility and skills to dive in and do the work, at a high level, themselves. Not driven by ego, driven by a desire to perform at a high level
- Excellent leadership skills, business acumen and ability to effectively manage, lead and supervise a multidisciplinary team
- Executive-level communication and influencing skills with the ability to resolve issues, build consensus among groups of diverse internal/external stakeholders, and have proven skill in negotiating and mediating conflict
- Must excel at strategic thinking, be open to new perspectives and better ways to do things
- Flexible and creative mindset with the ability to overcome obstacles with a positive outlook
- High autonomy, and superior time and project management skills
