As a key member of the Operations team, the Vice President of Operations reports to the Chief Operating Officer and assumes a strategic role in the overall management of the company. The Vice President of Operations is responsible for overseeing various operations aspects of the company as well as overseeing the site operations for Avero.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implements operations strategy to ensure the company achieves its financial and strategic goals. Drives lab profitability, productivity, and efficiencies.
- Oversees site operations at Progenity.
- Drives operational performance: establishing and actively managing operational SLA and scorecard metrics, championing Lean Six Sigma and Lean Production continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensures adequate staffing across all functional areas of the lab, focusing on capacity utilization and promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
- Leverages advanced technology and scientific expertise to provide innovative, customized solutions to meet client needs and increase efficiencies.
- Maintain knowledge of technological advancements in laboratory testing, computer applications and specialized instrumentation.
- Participates in vendor negotiations to ensure cost-efficiency.
- Oversees Financial Services and Field Operations teams and ensures customer satisfaction.
- Ensures business processes comply with regulatory requirements to minimize risk to the organization.

Education/Certifications
- BS/BA (or equivalent) in a biological science, similar field of study, or equivalent. MS, MBA, or PhD is preferred.
Work Experience
- 10+ years of experience in laboratory administration or related field.
- 10+ years of management & leadership experience.
- 7+ years of high-complexity-testing, high volume lab operations.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Proficient in working with Microsoft Office, specifically MS Excel.
- Lean Six Sigma experience; Black Belt certified is a plus.
- Ability to analyze and interpret data and solve practical problems.
- GLP, GMP, or FDA experience is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with clinical and/or public health laboratory laws.
- Demonstrated ability to achieve operational improvement leading to quality and/or efficiency improvements.
- Experience in troubleshooting, process improvement, and workflow analysis.
- Must be a detail-oriented, organized self-starter with an ability to prioritize workload.
- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to handle a wide work variety in a fast-paced environment.
