Eight Sleep has launched Hot Flash Mode, a new feature on its Pod temperature-regulated mattress cover designed specifically for women experiencing nighttime hot flashes. The feature offers rapid cooling that can be activated manually through the Eight Sleep app or by tapping controls on the Pod itself.
The feature addresses a significant market need, with approximately 1.2 billion women expected to be menopausal by 2030, representing 14% of the global population. About 80% of menopausal women experience hot flashes that negatively impact sleep quality.
Eight Sleep developed the feature based on feedback from menopausal users who reported that while the Pod reduced hot flash frequency, they wanted faster cooling when hot flashes occurred. The company’s clinical team analyzed data from over 1,200 menopausal women who logged more than 13,800 cooling and rewarming events to design the optimal cooling response.
In a two-week study, 16 menopausal women used Hot Flash Mode 122 times, averaging six uses per week. Results showed that 78% of women found the feature more effective than other solutions they had tried for managing nighttime hot flashes, with 80% reporting relief within 10 minutes of activation.
Hot Flash Mode provides targeted cooling when activated, then gradually returns the Pod to the user’s baseline sleep temperature to facilitate falling back asleep. The feature represents Eight Sleep’s first expansion into addressing specific women’s health needs through sleep technology.
