OhmBody has launched a new wearable device to combine vagus and trigeminal nerve stimulation for menstrual symptom relief. The US-based company, the women’s wellness division of Spark Biomedical, offers the device as a drug-free alternative to traditional menstrual pain management.
The device delivers low-frequency neurostimulation through a discreet earpiece, targeting both the vagus and trigeminal nerves to support pain regulation, inflammation reduction, mood stabilization, and digestive comfort. The approach aims to guide the nervous system from “fight or flight” mode to “rest and digest” during menstrual cycles.
“We didn’t create OhmBody to help you ‘power through’ your cycle. We created it so you don’t have to,” said Amy Gaston, VP of Strategic Growth at OhmBody. “No more heating pads, doubling up on protection, planning your wardrobe and your life around your period, and pretending everything is fine.”
Clinical trials demonstrated significant results across multiple menstrual symptoms. According to the company, 88% of participants experienced greater menstrual comfort, while users reported an average 55% reduction in menstrual blood loss with a 35% reduction on day one. Additionally, 71% of participants felt more emotionally stable during their cycles.
The device was developed by a cross-functional team including neuroscientists, engineers, and women with lived experience of menstrual challenges. OhmBody positions the technology as working with the body’s natural regulatory systems rather than suppressing symptoms through hormonal or pharmaceutical interventions.
“Our research demonstrates that targeted neurostimulation can modulate autonomic nervous system activity to help regulate common menstrual symptoms,” said Dr. Navid Khodaparast, PhD, Chief Science Officer and co-founder at Spark Biomedical. “OhmBody leverages this science to provide women with a non-invasive, drug- and hormone-free option for restoring balance and relief during their cycle.”
The OhmBody Starter Kit retails for $719 and includes the battery-powered neurostimulation device, seven single-use adhesive earpieces, connecting cable, and setup essentials. The single-use earpieces require regular replacement, creating an ongoing cost structure for users.
The launch enters a competitive menstrual health market where companies are developing alternatives to traditional pain management approaches. OhmBody’s neurostimulation approach differentiates from heating pads, pharmaceutical options, and hormonal treatments by targeting the nervous system directly.
The device represents an expansion of neurostimulation technology into women’s health, building on Spark Biomedical’s experience in wearable neurostimulation applications. OhmBody’s approach targets multiple menstrual symptoms simultaneously, including cramps, heavy bleeding, fatigue, gastric discomfort, and emotional fluctuations, through a single device intervention.
